South Aluminum Industries Complex has 258 Pot cells. The PotRoom unit has two parallel halls and 129 Pot cells are installed in each hall.
Electric current enters the regenerative cells through 6 risers and 48 carbon anodes. Each pot room is divided into three sections, with 43 cells in each section. There are 3 separate GTC units and alumina transfer between the two pot rooms.
Regenerative cell technology has a direct current of 430 kA and the life of regenerative cells is at least 1800 days.
The GTC unit is responsible for purifying the exhaust gases from the Potrooms. Harmful gases of the reduction cells are hydrogen fluoride (HF) and dust, which contains alumina (as the main raw material of the reduction process). Exhaust dust not only seriously pollutes the environment but also wastes raw materials. Dry scrubbing method is used in the reduction pollution Refining unit. In this method, hydrogen fluoride is absorbed up to 99.6% after passing through alumina and reacting with it, and enriched alumina is obtained. The alumina obtained from this process is divided into two parts.Part of it enters the alumina silo to be sent to the regenerating cell and the other part returns to the dust collector to perform the Dry Scrubbing process.
Compared to conventional aluminum production technologies, South Aluminum Complex Rehabilitation Halls have the following advantages:
- High capacity and efficiency
- High energy efficiency and low energy consumption
- Long life of regenerating cells
- Being smart
